August Lovebug Blog Hop

Welcome to Lovebug Scrapbooking's "INSPIRE US!" blog hop!! Our blog hops take place on the last Saturday of every month. Thanks so much for joining us!

If you just happened by this blog and didn't realize a blog hop was takingplace, please go back to Lovebug Scrapbooking http://www.lovebugscrapbooking.wordpress.com/ and start the Hop. You won't want to miss all the inspiration from our members....... or the prizes :-) Our theme for August is "BACK TO SCHOOL".

I intended to photograph and post one of the few back to school layouts I`ve done. Unfortunately, that didn`t happen, because well, that would mean locating said layout. I don`t know about any of you, dear readers, but I for one have far too many layouts that have NOT made it into albums yet! One day I`ll have to take a picture of the box.... ok, the boxes...

So instead, I am going to share some great poems I`ve found. A poem is a great way to change up your journalling. I don`t know about you, but as my dear cousin enters Gr. 7 in a little over a week, I`m finding it hard to think of something original to say about the traditional ``picture in front of the house or the school` picture. At least in our family, the first day is the same every year.

So, without further ado, here are some poems that you can use in place of traditional journalling, or in addition to it. I particularly love this one, which I found at a few places, including http://www.aniowamom.com/an_iowa_mom/2010/08/twas-the-night-before-school-started-.html:

Twas the night before school started,
When all through the town,
The parents were cheering.
It was a riotous sound!
By eight, kids were washed
And tucked into bed...
When memories of homework...filled them with dread!

New pencils, new folders, new notebooks, too!
New teachers, new friends...their anxiety grew!
The parents just giggled when they learned of this fright
And shouted upstairs-...
GO TO BED-IT'S A SCHOOL NIGHT!

And this one from http://www.canteach.ca/elementary/songspoems5.html is neat too...
Backpack by Shelley PlumOn my back a pack I carry
In it, all my treasures.
It's what I need
So I can be
One class higher!

Crayons, ruler, scissors too,
And yes a little Elmer's glue
Paper, pencils, in my bag…
Wonder what made mom so sad?

Trapper keeper, nice and neat
Will it really stay this clean?

On my back a pack I carry
In it, all my treasures!

Today I'll be
Just watch and see
One class higher!

And last, here`s one for the wee ones starting pre-school... we can`t leave them out! I found this poem at http://www.perpetualpreschool.com/preschool_themes/back_to_school/poems.html

When children come home at the end of the day,
The question they're asked as they scurry to play
is, "Tell me what you did today?"
And the answer they give makes you sigh with dismay.
"Nothing, I did nothing today!"
Perhaps nothing means that I played with blocks,
Or counted to ten, or sorted some rocks.
Maybe I painted a picture of red and blue
Or heard a story of a mouse that flew.
Maybe I watched the gerbils eat today,
Or went outside on the swings to play.
Maybe today was the very first time
That my scissors follwed a very straight line
Maybe I lead a song from beginning to end,
Or played with a special brand new friend.
When you're in pre-school
And your heart has wings,
"Nothing" can mean so many things!!

There were other things I wanted to share, but they will have to wait until next week!

Follow me and/or comment on this blog post for a chance at small prize (up to $5 value). To Carla and Melissa, I apologize for your prizes not getting to you yet - they are on their way!

LOVE those poems, especially the "Night Before School" one. I think I'll use that one. I agree with you that it's difficult to find something new to say about year after year of back-to-school photos, and this poem should give it a different spin.
