August kit card

These cards are month two - August - of the four month swap I'm in, where each month we get some SU embellishments, patterned/designer paper, and stamped images, and make a card from it.

The good thing was that I loved the chosen paper and images, and I had the perfect SU cardstock in my stash for the base. And I realized that I do love that dsp, so it is now my list. It was already on my maybe list anyway, and really, 9/10 times my maybes become yeses anyway. LOL

The sad thing? I now regret that one of those 1/10 times where a maybe became a NO was with the adorable Owl Together Now stamp set, which is now, of course, retired.

How could I possibly think I wouldn't use this set? It wonderful! Perfect for children's birthday cards.

Not sure if I like the tab at the top or the side. Also not sure I like the hardware the way I used it. What do you think, dear readers?

The design is relatively simple. In all cases, the sentimentand the owl are raised using dimensionals. I confess some of the images and sentiments were inked and some weren't, because, well, I was talking to a friend - we were stamping together - and I, well... forgot. And I couldn't take them apart to fix at that time. Of course, I would have had extra image to use, but, not thinking at that point that I'd mess up, I'd already let my friend have the 'extras'.

The colouring of the owl as done simply by layering and blending colours. The wings are mostly Sage Shadow, with some Apricot Appeal. The body is Apricot Appeal and Barely Banana. I color the lightest colour first and then go over with darker colours to make a whole different shade.
So the moral of this post is never give your 'extras' away until you are SURE you are done.

The details:

All products Stampin Up
CS: So Saffron
DSP: Greenhouse Gala
Stamp: Owl Together Now
Ink: Pacific Point, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip
Misc: Chocolate Chip ribbon and ink, Hodgepodge Hardware, punches (modern label, tab, scallop circle), markers (Only Orange, YoYo Yellow, Barely Banana, Apricot Appeal, Sage Shadow)

Next I will show you the sample I came up with, which resulted in the card the other swap participants received. Ididm't wamt to risk messing up one of the pieces of the dsp so I used a scrap from my friend's stash... I don't remember what company it is, but it's not SU! If memory serves me, It's My Mind's Eye.

The other difference with the sample is that I used a corduroy brad and some different ribbon. Both these options were available from the kit; I just didn't care for them as much as the skinny ribbon and the hardware.

Of the first three, I like the middle on the best. And the sample is great too!

My favorite was the first example. You're example was great, as well. I am in love with that DSP! And, I fall more in love with it every time I "discover" it in my stash. LOL. TFS!

I love this stamp set! Glad you enjoyed it too. The DSP in the kit was actually from Good Morning Sunshine, which I stocked up on when it was in the clearance section. It's great paper.

While I'm not into the owl craze, I think these cards - and that fab dsp - are wonderful!

Darling owl. I like the different layouts, but I like the one with the corduroy button best. Thank you for sharing your ideas.
